15 December 2012

Due to the weather conditions, many golf clubs are not allowing electric trolleys on the course, unless they are fitted with winter wheels or hedgehogs. Obviously you have to comply with this ruling.
However, it is wortwhile to bear in mind that these wheels often put adittional strain on the motor, battey and gearbox and may cause premature wear.
Although it's not a definite cure, keep you bag as light as possible and try to keep out of long wet grass and thick mud as much as possible.

10 December 2012

Wet, muddy conditions is the ideal recipe for clogged front wheels and housings. To avoid premature motor, gearbox or battery problems it's a good idea to regularly clean the mud away and make sure the front wheel is running freely.

Powakaddy Freeway 2

My previous post explained details of a Non-Digital conversion for the Powakaddy Freeway 2.

Fo interest here is a pictue of the handle after a conversion has been completed. This shows the position of the speed control knob and distance function button.

Powakaddy Freeway 2 Electrical Problems

The Powakaddy Freeway 2 can suffer from many frustrating electrical problems. One way to cure an ongoing fault(s) is to convert the trolley to Non-Digital. This involves changing the control box and cabling/wiring and reverting to a manual speed control knob and separate distance selection button (this will enable you to select distances of either 10, 20 or 30 yards as and when required).

It must be advised, that when fitted, the Non-Digital system will remove any form of digital display function from the handle.
The system will run on either Lithium or Lead Acid\Gel batteries.
The Non-Digital conversion provides an alternative and reliable electrical system.

Golf Trolley Garage are able to carry out this conversion - please call for further details.

BATTERY TIPS

For your information here are some tips I give to my customers who purchase a new battery:

ALWAYS:
  1. Charge your new battery for 24 hours before use. New batteries can require up to six uses/charges before reaching optimum performance.
  2. Re-charge your battery immediately after every use – regardless of how many holes you have played.
  3. Charge in a well ventilated area away from heat source or direct sunlight.
  4. When not in use for extended periods top-up charge once a month.
  5. There is no need to keep your battery on constant charge. Charge for 8 to 10 hours then switch off, this can help safeguard against damage if your charger should develop a fault.
DO NOT:
  1. Leave the battery in a discharged condition.
  2. Discharge the battery other than through normal use on your trolley. This may damage the battery and result in reduced life and performance.
  3. Overload your trolley.
  4. Drop the battery, this will result in damage.
FACTORS WHICH MAY AFFECT BATTERY LIFE:
  1. Bag weight.
  2. Number of rounds per week.
  3. Course length and condition.
  4. Charging regime – additionally chargers can develop faults and should be professionally tested every year.
  5. Age and condition of trolley and components – e.g. seized/over tight wheels, worn motor, loose or broken battery connections.
  6. Temperature.

Customers often inform me that they have bought a new battery to try to fix their dead trolley - which unfortunately has not made any difference to the problem.
As batteries are expensive it is always best to get your exising battery and trolley checked out first to ensure the correct diagnosis, and to get the most cost effective repair.
Golf Trolley Garage is here to help you to keep your electric golf trolley effective, efficient and in tip top condition.

Premature battery failure is often caused by a faulty charger. Just because the indicator lights are working doesn't always mean the charging voltages are correct, and this will gradually cause the battery to fail.
A charger has to be tested to see if it is operating correctly and Golf Trolley Garage offer this facility - we also do this as a matter of course (together with your battery) when servicing your electric golf trolley.
